South African Archbishop Tutu Backs Gay Equality
Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu on Friday said he does not support a homophobic God.
"I would refuse to go to a homophobic heaven. No, I'd say sorry. I mean, I'd much rather go to that other place," he told reporters in Cape Town.
"We have to build a society that is accepting and it is not a free society until every single person knows they are acknowledged and accepted for who they are."
He was speaking at the launch of the United Nations "Free & Equal" global campaign for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) equality in Cape Town.
The campaign aims to raise awareness about homophobic violence and discrimination. Tutu said many people felt they could not be comfortable in their skin because of potential ridicule.

They still don’t know who she came to see in Lagos, that made her lodge in the hotel, but her dead body was found on the floor. Really sad, it’s not even one year that Cynthia Osokogu died.

Marriage Act Amendment Proposal - Oritsejafor Tackles Yerima
President of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor yesterday in a press release expressed unhappiness with Senator Ahmed Yerima for his (Yerima's) argument in the senate that the proposal for the deletion of section 29 (4) (b) is at variance with Islamic Law.

Oritsejafor, in a statement by Kenny Ashaka, his Special Assistant, Media and Public Affairs said he finds that argument offensive because "it presupposes that Nigeria, a secular state, is populated only by Muslims."
Yerima who is former governor of Zamfara State forced the senate president, David Mark to reverse himself and put to vote again the proposed amendment to the section last week prompting the senate to pass the resolution to amend the provision of section 29 (4) (b) of the 1999 constitution which states that, "any woman who is married shall be deemed to be of full age."

Pope Francis celebrates his first mass in Brazil
Pope Francis is holding his first Mass in Brazil
Pope Francis is celebrating the first Mass of his trip to Latin America, at the Shrine of Our Lady of Aparecida in the Brazilian state of Sao Paulo.
He warned his congregation against the "ephemeral idols" of money, power and pleasure, reports the BBC.
On Monday the Pope faced chaotic scenes as he arrived in Rio de Janeiro.
He is in Brazil to attend the Roman Catholic World Youth Day festival. It is his first trip abroad since becoming head of the Catholic Church in March.
The highlight of the five-day festival will be a prayer service on Rio's iconic Copacabana Beach on Thursday.
The pontiff's visit is taking place under tight security, after weeks of anti-government protests.
He travelled to the shrine in Aparecida by plane and helicopter.
Thousands of pilgrims arrived in the rural town ahead of Wednesday's Mass, which is taking place at the basilica holding the shrine.
"It is true that nowadays, to some extent, everyone, including our young people, feels attracted by the many idols which take the place of God and appear to offer hope - money, success, power, pleasure," the pontiff said during the service.
A homemade explosive device was discovered there on Sunday, but authorities said it was "of low power" and not near the area where the Pope and pilgrims will visit.
The Vatican later insisted that the discovery was no cause for concern.
Pope Francis is expected to fly back to Rio de Janeiro on Wednesday afternoon to visit a hospital and address young people taking part in a drug rehabilitation program.
