BIZARRE! Lady in Abuja locks husband and 5 children in House and sets it ablaze
An elderly lady living in one of the suburbs in the Capital city of Abuja (Dutse Baupma) set her own home on fire. Eye witness at the time of the incident revealed that the lady woke up early on Saturday morning (5th July, 2013) between the hours of 3-4:00am when her husband and their five(5) children were fast asleep, used padlock to lock all the exits of the property, poured petrol around the house and set it ablaze.
However inhabitants of the said property managed to escaped after their neighbors brokedown one of the exits of the building. The lady (residents said) was screaming at the top of her voice that she is the one who set the house on fire... it's her house.
On seeing that her husband and children were rescued out of the property, she took to her heels but was pursued and apprehended by her neighbours and handed over to the police in Dutse Makaranta.

LAURYN HILL BEGINS PRISON SENTENCE
The star reported to the federal prison in Danbury to commence her prison sentence after been sentenced May 6, 2013 to serve for three months for tax evasion.
Aside from her current sentence, Lauryn will also face three months house arrest afterwards as well as a year of supervised probation.
She had faced a possible sentence of as long as 36 months but the Judge took into account her lack of a prior criminal record and her six minor-aged children.
Hill began her career singing with the Fugees as a teenager in the 1990s before releasing her multiplatinum 1998 album “The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill.”
She pleaded guilty last year in New Jersey to failing to pay taxes on more than $1.8 million earned from 2005 to 2007.
Her attorney had sought probation, arguing that Hill’s charitable works, her family circumstances and the fact she paid back the taxes she owed should merit consideration.

Death sentence, Escape or die, Two convict escapes in court
Asaba — THERE was com-motion at an Asaba High Court, yesterday, as two robbery suspects took everybody unawares and escaped from the court room immediately the judge sentenced them to death by hanging, having found them guilty on two-count charges of armed robbery.
The two suspects who were in the dock without handcuffs jumped out, and became violent, used a wooden barricade used to block traffic leading to the court to hit prison officials chasing them.
The convicts were one Elvis Agbofodo and Frank Okedema both from Ekpan community, Uvwie Local Government Area of the state.
Prosecution had told the court that they robbed the residence of one Mrs. Mercy Omatseye of valuables and cash on July 8, 2010.

A youth vigilante group, popularly called “the Civilian JTF’’, said it apprehended two women attempting to smuggle assault weapons into the Monday market in Maiduguri on Sunday.
Witnesses told journalists that the women, who concealed the weapons in their dresses, were nabbed at the Bulabulin entrance gate of the market.
One of the witnesses, Modu Bulama, a trader, said that they were in the market when they heard noise from the gate.
“We rushed to scene, but on getting there, we saw two women in veil with assault weapons,’’ he said.
Mr. Bulama said that each of the women concealed an AK 47 rifle, a pistol and some items believed to be Improvise Explosive Devise (IED) in their veil.
A member of the vigilante, Usman Ibrahim, corroborated Mr. Bulama’s claim, adding: “we were on a routine checking at the gate when these women came with heavy veil.
“At first we did not bother to look at them, but we realised that one of them was shivering, we said something must be wrong,’’ Mr. Ibrahim said.
He said that when they were searched, “‘we found that each of them concealed an AK 47 rifle, a pistol and IED in their veil.
“We were surprised at the discovery, so we took them to officials of the Joint Task Force (JTF) on Operation Restore Order (ORO) for investigations,” Mr. Ibrahim said.
The JTF spokesman, Lt.-Col. Sagir Musa, could not be contacted for comment, but a senior military officer, who spoke on condition anonymity, confirmed the story.
The official said the JTF was already investigating the case.

The song wasn’t a hit but it got a few spins on local radio.

The former Vice President made the startling revelation yesterday in remarks he made on the occasion of the con ferment of an honorary doctorate degree on him by the Geneva School of Diplomacy and International Relations.

SHAME;15 lecturers demoted for having faked Ph.D degrees certificate in Ebonyi
NO fewer than 15 lecturers of Ebonyi State College of Education, Ikwo were weekend, demoted over alleged involvement in certificate forgery and for claiming to have acquired Ph.D degrees from reputable institutions outside the country.
Management of the college, on receipt of the report and recommendations of the committeeset up to look into the alleged claims by the lecturers, said the exercise was not meant to witch-hunt anybody in particular but to ensuresanity and discipline within the education sector in the state.
At a press briefing in Abakaliki, Special Adviserto Governor Martin Elechi of Ebonyi State on Higher Education, Professor Mike Ituma, revealed that the discovery came as a shock, stressing that the action of the affected lecturers was a reflection of the level of decay ravaging the sector.
According to him, the action of the management of the college is a step in the right direction and government is completely in support of the action against the lecturers.
In a statement, Public Relations Officer of the college, Mr. Nkwuda Bethrand Otukobelu, noted that the 15 affected lecturers would not be allowed to run any promotion course packaged by the college till after three years.
He said: “A lot of processes were followed in verification and evaluation of the certificates ofthe lecturers involved. Six of the affected lecturers who had their Ph.Ds from the institutions should stop parading themselves as Ph.D holders and stop adding the title ‘Dr.’ to their names
“That as regards to their present positions, nine of them have been demoted to Lecturer III; two to Assistant Lecturers and the remaining two to non-academic staff for not possessing relevant qualifications to be in the academic cadre.”
“That six of them who enjoyed financial benefits with the controversial certificates are to refund such benefit which accrued to them in excess of their present new position.”
“Findings by the committee and letters from the National Universities Commission, NUC, and the Federal Ministry of Education show that the institutions were neither approved norrecognized by the Federal Government of Nigeria.”

Protesters have ransacked the Cairo headquarters of President Mohammed Morsi's Muslim Brotherhood group in an attack that could spark more violence as demonstrators gear up for a second day of mass rallies.
Protest organisers meanwhile gave Mr Morsi until 5pm on Tuesday to step down and called on the police and the military to clearly state their support for what the protest movement called the popular will.
Sunday saw huge numbers flood the streets nationwide in a massive outpouring of anger and frustration with the president and the Brotherhood, the Islamist group that propelled Mr Morsi to power. The protests were largely peaceful, although in a sign of the volatility of the country's divisions, clashes erupted in the evening around the Brotherhood's Cairo headquarters between armed Morsi supporters barricaded inside the building and young protesters pelting it with firebombs and rocks.
After clashes raged overnight, protesters managed to breach the compound's defences and storm the six-storey building, taking furniture, files, rugs, blankets, air conditioning units and portraits of Mr Morsi.
Smoke billowed out of the smashed windows of the fortified villa in the Muqatam district in eastern Cairo. A fire was still raging on one floor hours after the building was stormed. One protester tore down the Muslim Brotherhood sign from the building's front wall, while another hoisted Egypt's red, black and white flag out an upper-story window and waved it in the air in triumph.
At least 16 people nationwide have been killed in violence related to the protests, eight of them at the Brotherhood's headquarters.
Morsi critics view the Brotherhood headquarters as the seat of real power in Egypt, consistently claiming that the Islamist group's spiritual leader, Mohammed Badie and his powerful deputy, Khairat el-Shater, were the ones actually calling the shots in the country, not the president.
Meanwhile anti-Morsi protesters were gearing up for a second day of demonstrations. Some spent the night in dozens of tents pitched in the capital's central Tahrir Square and in front of the president's Ittihadiya Palace. They have vowed to stay there until Mr Morsi resigns. The president's supporters, meanwhile, continued their sit-in in front of a major mosque in another part of Cairo.
Fears were widespread that the collisions between the two sides could grow more violent in coming days. Mr Morsi made clear that he would not step down and his Islamist supporters vowed not to allow protesters to remove one of their own.
Mr Morsi's supporters have depicted the planned protest as a plot by Mubarak loyalists. But their claims were undermined by the extent of Sunday's rallies. In Cairo and a string of cities in the Nile Delta and on the Mediterranean coast, the protests topped even the biggest ones of the 2011's 18-day uprising, including the day Mubarak quit when giant crowds marched on
