Popular 2go Rape victim infected with HIV by Rapers

The Woman In The Absu Rape Video Is My Wife And Was Infected With Hiv By The Rapist- Distraughted Husband. After months of investigations, Nation Newspaper South south Regional Editor SHOLA O’NEIL and ROSEMARY NWISI reveal the missing links in the 2011 rape video erroneously tagged ‘Abia rape video’. They unravel the victim’s identity, the Rivers State scene of the crime and how the victim was infected with HIV, which claimed the life of the child she was carrying. On a rainy Sunday afternoon in June, Obite, Etche Local Government Area of Rivers State wore an innocent look. Nothing gave it away as the scene where four men gang-raped a pregnant wife of their relative and indigene of the community. Driving through the tranquil town on that soggy Sunday, it was hard to picture it as the setting for the sordid rape that travelled through and repulsed the world in 2011 and became erroneously known as ‘Abia rape’. Mr Stanley Sunday (not his real name), husband of the victim, said Obite was where the crime took place. The police think so too. Pointing to a nondescript bungalow in one of the suburbs, Mr. S (as he preferred to be known in this report) told Niger Delta Report in an emotion-laden voice: “That is where they raped my wife”. The hapless woman was pregnant with a child, whose fate was sadly sealed by the rape. Mr S refused to speak with us inside his house – a bungalow on the outskirts of the village – because of fear that we could be attacked by the rapists and ‘their sponsor’. “We must talk quickly and you leave; I do not want to put your lives in danger,” he said. When reports of the rape first surfaced on the internet in August 2011, it was said to have occurred at the Abia State University (ABSU). The rapists were thought to be students of ABSU. Governor Theodore Orji and his wife Mercy lent their voices to the gale of condemnation, with ABSU denying that”there was no such inglorious act and ugly incident in the institution.” Mr. S said: “Some of the rapists did not even finish their secondary education; none of them is a student of the institution.” The heartbroken man hinted of conspiracy between some powerful persons in the community, including a member of his extended family, and the rapists. “They know what they did; the activities they and their boss are engaged in,” he added. He said his wife told him that there were eight men in the room when she was molested. “Four of them raped her, while the other four acted as bouncers, guard and commanders.” Kept in the dark Our checks revealed that the distraught husband found out about the sordid affair late. He had also lost a son to HIV/AIDS infection, which his wife is believed to have contacted from the rapists. Attempts by our reporter to speak with the victim met brick walls. At her family’s home in Nazi, Owerri, where she moved in with her parents, we were told she had relocated to the village, ostensibly because of the stigma from the incident. Her sibling, who was contacted on telephone, became suspicious and hung as soon as we told him we were trying to reach his sister. Over one year after he found out, Mr S could not completely conceal the hurt and betrayal in his voice when he spoke. He said he found out about the rape of his wife through his colleagues. He was working offshore when his colleagues started discussing the “evils going on in the society. They said I should see what evil people are doing. I was not interested until they started talking about a sad one that happened in Abia State. They said university students raped their colleague, videoed and posted it on the internet. I said they must be cultists to have done such things. “When they started narrating it, I got interested and asked to see the video. When I saw it (video), I listened to what the woman was saying but it was her voice that struck me. I was shocked; I said within myself ‘am I dreaming?’ The woman in the video had my wife’s voice, face and the hair style? “I couldn’t contain myself; I asked my colleague to transfer the video to my mobile phone. I did not tell him why I wanted the video, but I wanted to compare it with her (wife’s) photo I have on my laptop computer back at home.” After some time, he got time-off from work in an offshore location and went home to confront his wife and his worst nightmare. He said the woman initially denied she was the woman in the video before he pressured her into confessing. Obite’s indigenes, who asked not to be named, said the husband was so angry that he summoned a family meeting and threatened to divorce his wife, if she did not open up. “It was then that the woman narrated that she was going to visit her husband’s relative when she was lured into the house by the suspects, some of whom are her husband’s relatives,” said a source. Confirming this, Mr S said: “She said she hid it from me because of the threat to her life, my own life and those of our family members.” More intriguing, according to our checks, was that most of the man’s relatives in the town reportedly knew about it before he was aware. More perplexing, Mr S said, was that one of his relatives, a very influential member of the community, was fingered as the godfather of the boys, who raped his wife. “I didn’t know what she was going through, what had happened to my wife. She was living with me and cooking for me while living this horror and fear that they would kill her if she told me or go to the police. “The worst aspect of the case is that they infected her with the deadly disease (HIV). When this incident happened, my wife was pregnant (about two months).” Yet his feeling of sorrow and empathy failed to save the marriage. Although he would not confirm or deny report that he was separated from his wife, yet he said he had not seen her for over two months when we met him in Obite. “She is living with her parents in Owerri. I do call her and we talk once in a while. I even took her to TB Joshua’s church in Lagos when we were finding solution to the case (her infection).” HIV Infection Our investigations revealed that the husband’s anger was fuelled by a tragedy that earlier struck the couple in 2011 when their six-month-old son – the first child of the marriage – died of complications resulting from a mysterious HIV infection. He said: “The child was taken to a children’s clinic located in GRA Phase 1, Port Harcourt after he fell ill with cough, about two months after his birth. He was coughing without stopping and we had to take the child to the specialist hospital.” At the hospital, the child and mother were diagnosed with the deadly Human Immune Virus (HIV). The blood report from a Haematology Laboratory Request form dated August 5, 2011, (a copy is in Niger Delta Report’s possession), showed that the mother and child tested positive to HIV antibodies. The father’s result was negative. The result struck a blow that shook the young marriage to its foundation. The child was barely two months old and had just be dedicated at a Pentecostal church with fanfare and an elaborate celebration party in mid-June 2011. Before the incident, Mr S was surprised when the doctors asked for his blood sample for a routine test. “I told them that it was my child that was ill and not me. But they insisted and I had to allow them even though I didn’t know why.” After the test, top management staff of the hospital (names withheld) invited the couple to a meeting where they broke the sad news to them. “They told me I am a lucky man; my wife and son had HIV but I don’t have. I was surprised. I didn’t know what to say. I asked ‘what is the luck in that when my wife and child were infected?’” The hospital declined comment when contacted. An official politely cited the sensitive nature of the diagnosis and doctor/patient secrecy oath, stressing that the hospital should not be mentioned in this report. A medical source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, confirmed the report. It was gathered that the revelation rocked the foundation of the couple’s marriage with both family members getting involved in the effort to solve the mystery. Mrs S was accused of infidelity and almost sent packing when the child died two months later. Yet, she refused to disclose the source of her anguish until her husband confronted her with the video. More intrigues It was while the couple was managing the crisis resulting from the child’s death that Mr. S stumbled on the rape video and possible answer to mystery of the HIV infection. If his wife was cowed by the threat, the angry husband was unfazed and determined to bring the harbingers of his misfortune to justice. He immediately dragged his wife to the Rivers State Police Command’s Criminal Investigation Department. The case was assigned to an inspector of police identified as Mr. Eneje. The victim was taken in by the police for interrogation after which she identified three suspects as part of the gang. A fourth suspect narrowly escaped and was still at large at the time of this report. The suspects are: Uchenna Ukulor, Chizoba Nwosu, Nwazuo Nmezi and one person at large. Mr S said as soon as the suspects were arrested, some prominent members of the community met and decided that he withdrew the case from the police and let bygone be bygone. When he refused, he said he was banished from the community. However, it was gathered that weeks after the police began investigation, Mr S lost his job. He claimed that he was victimised because of his insistence on bringing his wife’s abusers to justice. He said some members of the society boasted after he lost his job that”let’s see how he is going to pursue the case now”. He added: “Since I came to the knowledge of the incident and began the move to prosecute the suspects, my life has been under threat; the suspects are after me, their sponsor (names withheld), is after me. They have been making frantic efforts to eliminate me.” He said the threats were so serious that he and his wife had to temporarily relocate to the Police Headquarters during the investigations. Attempts to scuttle the case Although scores of persons were either arrested or interrogated over the incident, the trial has dragged on for over a year amid reports of attempts to bribe the police and other agencies involved in the prosecution. Police Inspector Eneje, who investigated the matter, refused to comment on reports that he was offered inducement to ‘close the case’. He said the police had concluded its investigation and arrested suspects who were charged to Magistrate’s Court 9, Port Harcourt. Records obtained from the court indicated that the case file was transferred to the Department of Public Prosecution (DPP) for advice last year after the court declined jurisdiction on the ground that it was not competent to try the suspects. At the DPP office, a source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the prosecution was delayed when certain key evidence disappeared from the file. Our source said: “The photographs and other exhibits needed to prosecute the case disappeared but I think efforts are being made to retrieve them now.” Solicitor-General of the State and Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Justice, Rufus Godwin, who was contacted, referred us to the chief registrar, insisting that he could not speak on the case without the charge sheet number. ‘Rapists’ on the loose Nevertheless, while the case winds painfully through prosecution, the suspects, Ukulor, Nwosu and Nmezi, have returned to their normal lives, much to the angst of Mr S, his distraught wife and members of the human rights community. It was gathered that the suspects were granted bail in late last year. Mr S, who said the release of the suspects, has further heightened fear over his safety, said: “We don’t even know the position of the matter now; since last year we were told that the DPP advice was being awaited. The suspects are walking freely everywhere; even one of them just got wedded about two months ago.” He said his family has been let down by the government, which allowed the case to drag on until it is almost forgotten. He said: “Well, one thing I believe is that the crime, humiliation was not committed only against me, they did it to Nigeria, Nigerians in general and women all over the world in particular.” The Director of Programmes, Centre for Environment, Human Rights Development (CEHRD), Steve Obodoekwe, agreed that the crime was against humanity, not just the family involved. He expressed dissatisfaction with Ministry of Justice’s handling of the case, adding: “It is not one of such cases that should be swept under the carpet; it is unfortunate to hear that the matter is as good as dead. “Right now, we learnt that the suspects earlier arraigned in a Magistrate’s Court in connection with the crime are no longer in custody, even when the DPP’s advice is yet being expected and the matter not yet before any High Court either in the state or country. This is, indeed, very appalling.” He called for the conduct of a probe on how the suspects ‘escaped’ from custody. Obodoekwe said: “They should be rearrested and detained, charged to court and tried accordingly. We are also recommending that those that let them off the hooks should be equally fished out and given the same treatment as the criminals. “This is because, we are in Nigeria, and obviously nothing goes for nothing in this country. Those that released them from custody must have done deals with them, and so should be given even worse treatment than the suspects. “A serious matter like ‘gang rape’ is what we are talking about here, you arrested some suspects took them to the Magistrate’s Court which we know have no powers to try capital offences. Now we are hearing that they are moving freely everywhere like free persons. It is unheard of; it is evil. “One thing that is certain in this whole issue is that the incident is not a crime against the victim and her family; it is a crime, humiliation against the state, Federal Government and I want the ministry of justice to know this.” It is uncertain when the family will get justice, but what is sure is that the last has not been heard of this gang rape, even though the video has been pulled from the internet. Ngozi Okeke wakes Chinua Achebe with her Review of Things Fall Apart

The African Trilogy: Part 1; Things Fall Apart, 1958, by Chinua Achebe ***** This is the third time I have read this book and it felt like the first time. Click here to read my previous review. As I earlier told someone, I did not know that Things Fall Apart was part of a  trilogy until I met a friend who asked me if I had read the second and third part of the story, I looked at her jaw-dropping and eye-popping while I replied no. I could not imagine how this very well-known book written by a renowned author from my hometown could be part of a trilogy without my knowledge. I investigated a bit and voilà! It was true. People who knew my love for Chinua Achebe, gave me the remaining part of the novel as gift and I will forever be grateful for it nevertheless, I can't start reading them without reading Things fall Apart again, hence I read it for the third time. Almost everyone has read this very well acclaimed novel that narrates the famous story of the consequence of the British colony on the Igbo people (Eastern Nigeria), these people here represent thousands of other ethnic groups in Africa because this story could have been about any African tribe (or ethnic group) anyway. This widely read novel today all over the world is a great insight into the life of the Igbos before  and at the beginning of the colonial rule. It narrates the story of Okonkwo who is determined to be everything his weak and "lazy" father was not which was fame, huge, wide, loud, hot tempered, successful  and more. Because in his culture then a man with all those qualities is considered to be a prestigious man. He puts his tradition first   "The law of the land must be obeyed"   and reproached anybody who would have doubt about the custom of his land, even though it included the throwing away of twins in the forest, killing human beings of other clans in the name of sacrifice, forbidding a man with an ozo title to climb a palm tree, etc. This story was focused on (not only)  Okonkwo's every day life, the way he interacted with his family, his friends and other members of his clan. One day, during a funeral ceremony, he accidentally committed a crime, whereupon he had to spend seven years in exile, during which, the white man established a new practice in his village that, in most cases treated them as inferior. At the end of his banishment, Okonkwo wanted to regain his status among his clansmen  and most of all he wanted to get rid of  the white man and his new tradition. Did he succeed? This book is nearest my heart because, it tells the story of my culture (my people) in an eye opening way. It thoroughly explained our way of life then and, it was a helpful insight into the early influence of the British Colony on the Igbos. Many quotes and conversation in this book  drew my attention but, I can't quote them all, the following conversation made me burst into laughter. 'The world is larg',said Okonkwo. 'I have even heard that in some tribes a man's children belong to his wives and her family' That cannot be true said Machi. 'You might as well say that the woman lies on top of the man when they are making the children'. There is no need to say that, this is a highly recommended book to everyone. Click here to read part two of the Trilogy.

The list of Nigerian presidents and how much they stole

by Nessa Nnamani Having taken my early morning coffee, I sat back reading news coming from Germany vis-à-vis Ibrahim Babangida’s critical health condition. I was praying for his health to be returned to him. IBB is not somebody that I would love to see die in a hospital because he needs to die like his late brother in crime, Gaddafi. I was so sad, very sad indeed and I reflected: Abdulsalami Abubakar stole about 20 billion U.S dollars from Nigeria , Atiku Abubakar stole about $18 billion U.S dollars, Olusegun Obasanjo and her daughter- Iyabo liquidated about $13 billion dollar power project, IBB stole about $20 billion US dollars from Nigeria. Ibori stole over $2.6 billion U.S dollars, Tony Anenih stole about $6 billion U.S. dollars during his time as a federal minister alone, Abba Ruma stole about 1.3 billion U.S dollars ,Umaru Dikko stole about $1 billion U.S dollars, Peter Odili stole about $2billion U.S dollars ,Orji Uzor Kalu stole about $1.2 billion U.S dollars, Bola Tinubu stole about $1.1 billion U.S dollars, David Mark stole about $1 billion U.S dollars already, former speaker Bankole stole about $1 billion U.S dollars, Ahmed Makarfi stole about $800 million U.S dollars, Gbenga Daniel stole about 500 million U.S dollars, Christopher Alao Akala stole about $250 million U.S dollars, Ikedi Ohakim stole about 450 million U.S dollars, Muhammadu Buhari stole over 500 million U.S dollars during his time at Petroleum Trust Fund, Chimaroke Nnamani stole over $500 million U.S dollars, Donald Duke stole about 600 million U.S dollars, Lucky Igbinedion stole about 600 million U.S dollars, Ngozi Okonja Iweala stole about 100 million U.S dollars, Nasir el Rufai is accused of liquidating about 30 billion Naira, even Saint Nuhu Ribadu has not explained how he single handedly raised billions of Naira from his salary as police officer just to secure ACN presidential ticket, Sullivan Chime, Peter Obi, Theodore Orji, Gabriel Suswam, Timipre Sylvia etc are currently stealing and the list goes on and on ad infinitium. So why am I so sad? A poor little girl (fascinated with western technology) got caught and stripped naked for stealing an outdated black berry by a cross section of Nigerian Masses. She was tortured, violated, fingered, molested and raped. The same girl would not have stolen the blackberry if her money stolen by the Nigerian elite was properly accounted to her. Please see the video link here http:// fatherrapesdaughter.blogspot.com/ Yet, nobody dare do same to Patience Jonathan (wife of current Nigerian President) when she was caught at the airport trying to freight away over $15 million U.S dollars and other hard currencies. Saint Nuhu Ribadu who handled the case as EFCC boss now claims such event never happened. The same Ribadu also claimed that Bola Tinubu is now innocent. My question is why kill a harmless bird when these big thieves walk? After all, the big idiot that recovered the stolen phone should have forgiven the poor little chap knowing that more was stolen from him and her by the Nigerian elite. Rather than hold these thieves accountable by Nigerian masses, the same masses would argue among themselves and sympathize with these big thieves claiming that they are been persecuted due to ethnicity. The masses will sing their praises, dance for them, call them “oga” etc. Yet the same masses will turn against minor thieves. No wonder some shameless Yoruba elders rallied around Bode George and Bola Tinubu during their graft travails at the hands of the EFCC and Code of Conduct Bureau . I am not calling on Nigerian Masses to have a revolution. No, not at all, as such would attract the useless Nigerian Military and security apparatus to brutally kill the masses. During the Arab springs, the military in those countries supported the people. Nigerias’ case is and would be different as the Nigerian “imbecile and pepper soup ” military would support their “Ogas” against the people. We need to examine our conscience. If we will strip a poor little girl naked for stealing a black berry then the logic goes that we will need to strip our politicians naked for siphoning money meant for our education, road projects and other facilities. I am not an “internet” warrior but enough is enough. NB: Please circulate this article and say some prayers at 12 noon every day for God’s wrath on Nigerian Politicians regardless of tribes so that the revolution of the mind shall start. God bless the good people who read between the line.

Jealous boyfriend Burns his NYSC girlfriend and her friend to death in port harcourt.

We are living in a very wicked world! this happened on the 19th of July, 2013.

Two female corps members serving in Community Secondary school Iddo in Asari-Toru LGA of Rivers State were severely burnt beyond recognition by the one of the victim’s boyfriend who attacked them in their room.

One of the victims, named Amarachi Okey Winifred, is a batch C corps member while the other whose name could not be ascertained as at time of this report is a fresh batch B corps member who just left camp and reported at the PPA few weeks ago.

At first, the attackers were thought to be some PPA (Place of Primary Assignment) community boys and students from Winnie’s PPA, but the story turned out differently.

It turned out that Winnie was burned by her boyfriend because he felt she was cheating on him with a fellow corps member. A corper who stayed in the same hostel with Winnie in camp related the events.
“He thought she would be the only one in the room, he locked the door from outside, put petrol and lit the fire. Unfortunately, a friend of Winnie was also in the room. She’s a batch B corps member who just left camp some weeks ago.

Unfortunately for the boyfriend, he burnt his hands in the process. That was how the dude was identified and caught.

“In camp she was always scared whenever he called and she missed it n all. Didn’t know d fool was like this. Four years relationship fah… Because for hostel that time, everybody go dey wonder why she dey fear am.”

After the incident, the victims were both taken to the Intensive care unit (ICU) of UNIPORT Teaching Hospital due to the critical nature of the burns. The victims did not survive the burns. Winifred died on the morning of July 31. The perpetrator however, has since been caught by the Nigeria Police

CEO of J.P. Morgan advice on how a girl should get ready for marriage

This might be the best thing I’ve seen in a while:

A reply from CEO of J.P. Morgan to a pretty girl seeking a rich husband

A young and pretty lady posted this on a popular forum:

Title: What should I do to marry a rich guy?

I’m going to be honest of what I’m going to say here.
I’m 25 this year. I’m very pretty, have style and good taste. I wish to marry a guy with $500k annual salary or above.
You might say that I’m greedy, but an annual salary of $1M is considered only as middle class in New York.
My requirement is not high. Is there anyone in this forum who has an income of $500k annual salary? Are you all married?
I wanted to ask: what should I do to marry rich persons like you?
Among those I’ve dated, the richest is $250k annual income, and it seems that this is my upper limit.
If someone is going to move into high cost residential area on the west of New York City Garden(?), $250k annual income is not enough.
I’m here humbly to ask a few questions:

1) Where do most rich bachelors hang out? (Please list down the names and addresses of bars, restaurant, gym)
2) Which age group should I target?
3) Why most wives of the riches are only average-looking? I’ve met a few girls who don’t have looks and are not interesting, but they are able to marry rich guys.
4) How do you decide who can be your wife, and who can only be your girlfriend? (my target now is to get married)
Ms. Pretty

A philosophical reply from CEO of J.P. Morgan:

Dear Ms. Pretty,
I have read your post with great interest. Guess there are lots of girls out there who have similar questions like yours. Please allow me to analyse your situation as a professional investor.
My annual income is more than $500k, which meets your requirement, so I hope everyone believes that I’m not wasting time here.
From the standpoint of a business person, it is a bad decision to marry you. The answer is very simple, so let me explain.
Put the details aside, what you’re trying to do is an exchange of “beauty" and “money" : Person A provides beauty, and Person B pays for it, fair and square.
However, there’s a deadly problem here, your beauty will fade, but my money will not be gone without any good reason. The fact is, my income might increase from year to year, but you can’t be prettier year after year.
Hence from the viewpoint of economics, I am an appreciation asset, and you are a depreciation asset. It’s not just normal depreciation, but exponential depreciation. If that is your only asset, your value will be much worse 10 years later.
By the terms we use in Wall Street, every trading has a position, dating with you is also a “trading position".
If the trade value dropped we will sell it and it is not a good idea to keep it for long term - same goes with the marriage that you wanted. It might be cruel to say this, but in order to make a wiser decision any assets with great depreciation value will be sold or “leased".
Anyone with over $500k annual income is not a fool; we would only date you, but will not marry you. I would advice that you forget looking for any clues to marry a rich guy. And by the way, you could make yourself to become a rich person with $500k annual income. This has better chance than finding a rich fool.

Hope this reply helps.

Civilians Vigilantes Nab Boko Haram Bomb Expert.

Maiduguri — Borno Vigilance Youths Group (BVYG) otherwise known as "Civilian JTF" yesterday captured one Bula Modu an alleged Boko Haram member who specialises in coupling and planting of bombs.

The youths have handed over the suspect to the Joint Task Force, JTF. Modu was said to have fled to Lagos, few days after he planted the last bomb that went off in Maiduguri in May, this year.

Witnesses and those who captured the suspect said the explosion was planted at the popular One Way, along the Monday Market in Maiduguri which killed some people and destroyed properties.

"He was just back from Lagos, carrying his travelling bag which contained some new clothes, shoes and caps for Eid-el fitr Sallah celebration when we caught him," one of the vigilantes said.

He said after interrogation, the suspect admitted that he came back home to celebrate Sallah.

"It is Allah that brought Bula Modu back to Maiduguri at this hot moment when things changed against the Boko Haram sect," a trader Babagana Umara recalled

The screening of the aspirants commenced on Tuesday morning at the party’s secretariat in Abuja. The 5-member screening committee is headed by Aminu Wali, Nigeria’s ambassador to China.

Apart from the two women, the other 15 male aspirants to appear before the committee are are Obinna Uzoh, Mike Okoye, Akachukwu Nwankpo, Ugochukwu Okeke, Emmanuel Anosike, Andy Ubah, Jerry Ugokwe, Sylvester Okonkwo, Nicholas Ukakwe, Tony Nwoye, Patrick Ogbomo, Alex Obiogbolu, Charles Odunukwe, Ahamefula Damian, and Walter Okeke.

The Anambra governorship poll will hold in November while the PDP will conduct its primaries to select its candidate before then. Meanwhile, the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, insisted on Tuesday that it would not recognize Ken Emeakayi the Chairman of the PDP in Anambra State.

The party had in statement last week said among the three people claiming to be the state chairmen of the party, it had decided to recognize Mr. Emeakayi, saying it took the action after consultations with the major stakeholders in the state.

However, speaking in Abuja at the Stakeholder Conference with media professionals and civil society organisations on voter register optimization, plans for continuous voter registration, INEC Chairman, Attahiru Jega said the Commission would recognize Ejike Oguebego who won the state congress of March 2012.

“We monitored the state congress in March 2012 and we know who emerged winner and we have the record,” Mr Jega said.

“The claim that has been made is that court rule against the person who won the election at the congress. Our legal unit has no record of us being served with any court order.

“As far as we are concerned there is no confusion as to who is the chairman of the party in Anambra State.

Emulate James Ibori – Pastor Tells Nigerians.

Even in former Governor James Onanefe Ibori’s absence, his home town, Oghara, Delta state, was agog all through Sunday as his admirers, political followers and associates gathered to mark his 55th birthday in grand style. The celebration began with a Thanksgiving Church service at the Baptist Church,

Oghara, where the Pastor, Rev Iweh Godspower, challenged the congregation, to emulate Ibori, who though was not in the church, had attracted the large crowd to both the church and the Oghara town to celebrate his birthday in his absence because of the sheer force of his personality.

What is that aspect of Ibori’s personality that could attract such a mammoth crowed which filled the church and overflowed outside, he asked. He answered his own question: “It is a given that Ibori is a huge success, but that is not why all of you left your homes and different towns to be in Oghara today – even though the man you have come to celebrate may never know the individuals that have come to do him honour. You have come to Oghara today because Ibori is a man who after climbing high in the social, political and economic ladders of Nigeria, did not seize and throw away the ladders in the way most Nigerian big men usually do; he made the ladders available for others to climb up too. And even when some people are too weak to make good use of that ladders, he helped pull them up. That is why you are here today – never forget that and you go and do likewise, help others to climb up the ladders of life and love”. And the crowd applauded, while some others bellowed Ibori’s sobriquet: “Odidigboigbo of Africa”

Immediately after the Thanksgiving church service, the crowd which included seven first class traditional rulers, Independent Oil Marketers, key professionals, and top politicians from all the six geo-political zones, were joined by a bigger crowd in Ibori’s sprawling Oghara home, built before he became Governor, to begin the social celebrations. Several musicians, comedians, various women groups struggled for chance on the two podiums available to entertain the audience while politicians outdid each other in extolling Ibori.

The Oghara town wore a festive look as it was specially decorated for the event; while bill boards graced strategic positions of Asaba, Agbor, Oghara and other towns of Delta state – celebrating their former Governor whom they have not physically seen for several years now.

The three day celebration ends on Tuesday with a topflight novelty football match at the Oghara Township Stadium.

Tinubu goes for knee surgery .

Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, one of the national leaders and founders of Nigeria’s new political party, the All Progressives Congress will have surgery on his knee Tuesday in the United States, a short statement from his media office said today.

Tinubu has been out of Nigeria since the second week of July, spending weeks in United Kingdom before moving to the United States.

In his absence from home, the APC was registered by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC. The following day, the former Lagos Action Congress of Nigeria hoisted the flag of the new party.

Tinubu’s non-appearance at such an important political event had spurred speculations about his whereabouts.

But the statement today appeared to have put all permutations to rest.

Tinubu: goes for knee surgery

“Based on previous sports injury on one of his knees and recent further aggravation on the knee from rigorous political and family related activities, he has been advised by his doctors, despite his persistent reluctance that orthopedic surgery is necessary at this time”, said the statement.

Housewife bites maid’s private parts

Emotion flowed like river at the Onitsha Chief Magistrate Court on friday when Chiamaka (other names withheld), a mother of two, was arraigned by the police for savagely biting her nine-year-old maid, including her private part. This happened in the commercial city of Onitsha, Anambra State.

Chiamaka, who hails from Eziagu in Enugu State, was arraigned in suit number MO/38/2013 for allegedly inflicting bodily harm on her maid, Nnenna Nwafor, on July 25 when she allegedly used dangerous weapons and her teeth to inflict injuries on the girl.

The Police Prosecution counsel, Mr. Uwakwe Okoji, told the court that the suspect, a mother of two in her mid- 20s, committed the crime on July 25, 2013 at No 7 Udemba Street, Woliwo Onitsha, where she allegedly gave her maid bites all over the body including her private part.

He described the act as not only evil, but also one of man’s inhumanity to man. He equally told the court that the husband of the suspect had since sent her out of his house because of the act, while praying the court to look into the matter with a view to bringing the suspect to justice.

Widow and mother of the victim, Mrs. Nwafor, told the court amidst tears of how her daughter was battered by her mistress with bites, including her virgina; adding that, since then, the family has been passing through difficult times attending to the victim medically.

“I am a widow; I had challenges raising my children after my husband died. It was the difficulty that made meI to send my daughter to live with Chiamaka. I never knew that the injuries she inflicted on her were as serious as this until when she removed her pant and I noticed that she had a very serious cut in her private part. There are also other bite scars on her face, buttocks and, in fact, all over her body. I can’t really understand this type of punishment meted out to an innocent girl,” she said, sobbing.

The victim, Nnenna, while narrating her ordeal to Saturday Sun after the court session, painted a gory picture of what she passed through in the hands of her mistress. She said that on several occasions, her mistress had poured hot water on her, and attacked her with dangerous weapons on some other occasions.

She further disclosed how her mistress forced her down and ordered her to open her legs before biting her severally in her private part, after inflicting same on her buttocks and other parts of her body.

The presiding Magistrate, Mr. M A Okonkwo, said he was dumbfounded over the incident, adding that he never believed that a woman, who had passed through pains of childbirth, could inflict this type of injuries on a daughter of a fellow woman and ordered the suspect to be remanded in prison custody.

From Rev Fr Ejike Mbaka:
