Monarch with nine lives, Igwe Obosi

Monarch with nine lives
How Obosi monarch, HRM Igwe Chidubem Iweka, survives two assassination attempts
From DOM EKPUNOBI, Onitsha
Should it be said that HRM Igwe Chidubem Iweka is a lucky man raised to power two? Probably so. Igwe Iweka is the traditional ruler of Obosi Kingdom in Anambra State. Twice, attempts have been made to assassinate him. First, it was in January this year, when a murderous gang invaded his palace with lethal weapons. He escaped. A few weeks ago, evil men struck again. Well, it is not certain whether the last brigands were the same as the first.
The latest episode actually happened on May 21, 2013.  On that fateful day, Igwe Iweka was to travel to Abuja and so he was taken to Asaba Airport, where he was to board a plane. That was successfully done. However, as the driver who took the traditional ruler was going back with the Igwe’s police detail in his Toyota Fortuner Jeep, they encountered two gunmen on a motorcycle.
According to the Igwe’s Chief Press secretary, Chief Okwudili, the assassins must have thought that the monarch was in the vehicle and therefore targeted the vehicle on Ugwumba Road. There, they struck, but it was only the Igwe’s security that was hit and wounded.
Chief Okwudili who narrated the incident to the press said: “On Tuesday, the 21st of May, 2013, the traditional ruler of Obosi Kingdom, His Majesty, Igwe Chiduben Iweka, Eze Obosi, had cause to ask his Personal Assistant, Mr. Nnamdi Nkemena to rush him to Asaba Airport in order to fly to Abuja. They travelled to the airport with a policeman in front of His Majesty’s Toyota Fortuner Jeep.
“On their way back, around 10.47am at Ugwumba Road Nkpor, near Obosi, two motorcyclists who possibly must have monitored the vehicle as it was driven out of Obosi and who must have been parading the road in expectation of his arrival, but who definitely did not anticipate that HRM was not in the vehicle at the material time, fired into the vehicle. The bullet pierced through the windscreen but did not cause much harm as it was only the policeman in the vehicle that sustained bullet wound”.
Chief Press Secretary added that, “it was the special grace of God that saved His Majesty’s Personal Assistant and the Policeman”
Another chieftain in the community, Chief Oguegbu, confirmed that the attacked was the second on Igwe Iweka.  On February 27, 2012, he said, a gang struck in “his palace in an unsuccessful mission.” According to him, a similar incident occurred last year when, on the 27th of February 2012, the Palace of His Majesty, Eze Iweka III, was attacked by AK47-welding assassins. In the attack, one of his security men was gunned down.” These attacks, Chief Oguegbu attributed to the Igwe’s relentless fight to rid Obosi of crime and criminal activities. “It is an incontrovertible fact that these incessant attacks on His Majesty Igwe Iweka III, Eze Obosi is not unconnected with his stance in crime fighting,” he said.
“Since his coronation in 2011,” he continued,  “Eze Obosi has been making spirited efforts, in conjunction with law enforcement officers, to rid Obosi of 419ners, drug dealers, kidnappers, armed robbers and other miscreants in this kingdom”
A visit to the palace revealed that security has been beefed up and this is coming after the second attempt on the monarch.

My relationship with PSquare’s Peter Okoye … The true story – Munachi Abi

Since Munachi Abi came into limelight after winning the Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria( MBGN) crown in 2007, life has never been the same again. Within a very short period  of time, Muna, as she is fondly called by her admirers became a household name especially when she emerged one of the  formidable female  artistes in the Nigerian entertainment scene, floating  her own record label company called, No Koncience. But  while Muna’s  profile was constantly on the rise, so did the number of controversies trailing her.

From her rumoured ‘love affair’ with Peter Okoye, one half of the superstar  duo, P-Square, to her public dispute and reconciliation with rapper, Mode 9, Muna fluctuated between popularity and notoriety. However, in this interview, she addresses some of the nagging issues affecting her personality and career. She also narrated the circumstances that informed her decision to set up  her own record label, No Koncience among other things….

Do you still recall how you felt that fateful day  you were crowned as the Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria, MBGN 2007?

I was excited. I didn’t think I was going to win but I won.

Before you won the beauty pageant, you were with a group called,  The Specimen?

No, I wasn’t with them. They only gave me an opportunity to feature on their album as at that time. That was my first time rapping on wax. I used to write a lot of lyrics until my friend saw my notepad and quickly notified “The Specimen”  about me. They were glad to ask me to join them as they wanted  to see  what I could do with my talent. I would say, I learnt the art on the spot.

Have you written songs for any Nigerian artist?
Yes, back in the days, I wrote a song for J Martins, Waje. I have a good chemistry, I co-wrote the song, “I Wish” with Waje in her current album.

Aside writing songs and rapping, you are also into modelling. Do you still have that contract with Unilever as Face of Lux?

My contract with Lux is under review. They are trying to renew it.

And your programme  with Sound City. Is it also under review?

I still have an amazing relationship with SoundCity. I worked with them for over a year. We didn’t actually split but at that time, I was trying to get into the music business seriously. You really can’t do a lot of things at the same time. So, I took a break. I can always go back and say, I need my job back.

*Muna

Looking at your first video, Ifunanya, you played your character well; the love smitten girl and you have the looks too. Why didn’t you get into Nollywood?

No. I really don’t think I can act or even make it as a good actress although I haven’t tried it. I probably do know how to act, it’s just that I haven’t found the right script yet.

Have you been approached before?
Yes, I do get a lot of scripts. But I still haven’t found that one; when I find it, its going to make everybody cry.

Do you  want to play a tragic character?
Exactly, the kind of story I’m looking forward to interpreting because it moves me.

You recently set up your own record label called,  No Koncience. Why did you leave RMG to form yours?
I needed to become a little bit more independent and you know one needs to grow. I have  learnt how to handle things on my own and become responsible. It was something I needed to do  because one  cannot continue to be under someone’s wings forever. There comes a time when you have to spread you own wings and fly.

And you have a first single from this label?
Yes, my single “No Tomorrow” is out. It  came out on the 10th of this month, and it’s been good and a video for the song will soon be put together. My album, The Goddess, The hustler” is still receiving finishing touches but I may have to change the name.

Unlike many of your counterparts in the entertainment industry who prefer to climb the ladder of stardom by escalating their biffs with their colleagues. While your misunderstanding with Mode 9 lasted, you took the pain to call  him on the phone and even tweeted  a public apology,  what informed your decision to re-trace your steps?
I hate to be in enmity with someone. Life is too short for that. It’s not who I am. I have a good relationship with Mode 9, there’s no biff. And really it wasn’t a big issue it’s just you, the media who escalated things, trying to make a mountain out of nothing. You keep hammering on the same question trying to get the person to react negatively and it’s really frustrating. Mode 9 and I are very good friends and we’ll keep it that way.

It is alleged this is partly why you left your former label, RMG, for being too hard on fans with that strong worded press statement that told everyone off?
No, I did not leave RMG for that reason. I still have a good relationship with my former label and I was aware of all the statements written concerning that issue. I left RMG because I needed to start up my own thing; there was nothing more to it. I have no issues whatsoever with RMG.

What’s your opinion about love?
Love is life. It’s the most beautiful thing to happen to anybody.

Do you believe in love at first sight?
Yes, it could happen. It is possible.

Is this what happened between you and Peter Okoye (PSquare) love at first sight?
Look, I know Lola Omotola very well. I have known her for years and we are really close. All those things you heard or read about us are not true. Peter Okoye and I are friends. I know his family well. I was just invited to be in his video (Ifunanya) and that was it. Nothing more than that. I know how Peter and Lola love each other and I respect their love.  I could never do that to them. I could never bring myself to do anything to hurt them.
It’s good to have you clear the air!
(She interrupts) What you’ll see is another screaming headline, “Muna again denies affair with Peter Okoye.” It’s not fair, it’s heartbreaking and very frustrating. Some of these things you media guys  write about us hurts us so badly.

How have you learnt to deal with rumours about you?
I try to remain focused and I move on.

How supporting has your family been?

My family has always been there for me. My mum particularly, she is my rock. She’s always asking when am I going to get your song to use as my ringtone.

If offered a role to play  in a steaming love scene who will you do it with?
Maybe, with Johny Depp and Brad Pitt … except Brad Pitt says he won’t be doing sex scenes again because of Angelina Jolie, but for them, I am ready to play more than romantic.

What about  Nollywood Actors?
No. There is no one hot enough for me in Nollywood. No one.

What’s your vision for your new label?
To take over the world. (laughs) really it’s just to grow and be an inspiration to the next generation. To let them know anything and everything is possible once you set your mind to it.

Is marriage knocking on your door?
Yes, I believe it will come when it has to come and you all will know when the time is right.

What’s your favourite dance move?
I really don’t think I have  any particular one. You know as a rapper you aren’t really supposed to dance. You just stand on one spot and wave your hands.

World's oldest living siblings alive 818 years and counting

World oldest woman on record turns 105 years this week and when adding up her age with all of her other siblings, the years amount to 818.

The Melis siblings, who live on the island of Sardinia, are officially the world's oldest, with nine brothers and sisters clocking up a total of 818 years between them, the Italian news media reported.

The older sibling, Consolata, is 105 and has nine children, 24 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren, according to the news media, adding that the longevity of the Melis siblings had been recognized as a Guinness World Record.

Consolata turned 105 on Wednesday, according to reports in the news media, adding that the certification of the Guinness World Record has been awarded after a worldwide review of seven years.

The town where the Melis siblings live is called Perdasdefogu, and is located in the southeast corner of the island, which has some of the oldest people in the world. The next oldest are Claudia 99, Mary 97, Antonio 93, Concetta 91, Adolfo 89, Vitalio 86, Vitalia 81 and Mafalda 78.

Claudia still attends church every week and Adolfo runs the local bar. Luca Deiana, professor of clinical biochemistry at the University of Sassari, Sardinia, who has studied some 2,500 centenarians on the island since 1996, said the longevity of the inhabitants of the island was due to several factors.

"On one hand it is genetics, longevity is inherited, but there is a bounty of the land and the local fruit, especially pears and plums," he told the news media. He said the local strong family traditions also contribute to a long life.

Oscar Pistorius Gunning for glory again

Oscar Pistorius is back on the track. The South African athlete is out on bail for the murder of girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp, and has gotten back to training as he awaits trial.
Pistorius strapped on his running blades for the first time in several months, testing out a "low-key  track routine."
The UK Mirror reports:
Oscar Pistorius pulls on his running blades as he returns to training for the first time since the killing of his girlfriend.
Bearded and leaner, the 26-year-old was said to have been "overcome with emotion" in his return to the track after five months out.
The athlete's agent, Peet van Zyl, said Pistorious had described his return to regular training as "bittersweet".
"It was a very emotional experience for him to put the blades back on, to walk back onto the track, get the smell of the track," said Mr Van Zyl, who went to the track at the University of Pretoria with Pistorius," he said,
"It was tough for him. He said to me it was like a bittersweet feeling and emotion for him to be back on the track."
Pistorius' return to training was seen in a brief video clip released by his family
In the footage, which is around two minutes long, the athlete is first sitting on a chair at his usual training track at the university pulling on his running blades.
He then does some light jogging on the sunbathed track and, finally, wipes his face with both hands as he walks off the track.
Pistorius telephoned Mr Van Zyl and his coach, Ampie Louw, about a week ago to say he was ready to train again.
"(He) said, 'Guys I think I'm ready to resume training," Mr Van Zyl said.
Yesterday's visit was the second time Pistorius has been seen on the university track since he killed Ms Steenkamp.

Family members denied Pistorius was back to training after he was snapped  on a university track  field. At the time, the 26-year-old was in such a "traumatized state" that he couldn't train. Authorities are commissioning the help of Apple techs to break into the Paralympic champion's iPhone 5, to retrieve messages shared between the couple prior to the shooting.
Pistorius claims to have forgotten the smartphone password, and maintains he shot Steenkamp thinking she was a robber.

Borno state is finished as Governor cries out about drugs in midst of Boko Haram

Gov. Kashim Shetima of Nigeria's northern Borno state has disclosed that there are drug addicts in his cabinet, as he inaugurated a panel on drug abuse in the state that is regarded as the spiritual base of the Islamic sect Boko Haram.

According to the local Tribune newspaper on Friday, the governor even jokingly asked one of his Commissioners, who was present at the panel inauguration in the state capital, Maiduguri, on Thursday, if he knew any of the drug addicts, after he (Commissioner) burst into laughter at the governor's disclosure.

The governor expressed sadness at the statement by the State Commander of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) that there was an unprecedented use of illicit drugs in the state.

Gov. Shetima hinted that the Boko Haram crisis may have been exacerbated by drug use, when he said illegal drugs were found on arrested insurgents in the state.

He charged the 10-member panel to curb drug abuse in the state by complementing the efforts of the NDLEA.

PDP, a house divided against it self, suspends Daniel, 12 others

• Former governor yet to comment
THE Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Thursday suspended former Ogun State governor, Otunba Gbenga Daniel and 12 others for alleged anti-party activities.
The Executive of Ward 12, Sagamu Local Government, Ogun East senatorial district where Daniel registered as a member of the party, effected the suspension.
The development, according to the chairman of the senatorial district of the party, Otunba Doyin Fakoya, was carried out “so as to bring back discipline into the party.”
Fakoya, who spoke to journalists, stated: “Otunba Gbenga Daniel has been suspended from PDP by his ward, Ward 12 Sagamu Constituency II as of today (yesterday).
“I am the senatorial chairman of Ogun East senatorial district. I have got a copy of letter that Otunba Gbenga Daniel has been suspended. He is no longer a member of the PDP. He has been suspended by ward 12 Sagamu constituency II.”
Fakoya explained that the suspension was based on a recommendation by a report by the party’s disciplinary committee set up to look into the allegations leveled against Daniel and the 12 others.
He said: “Otunba Gbenga Daniel was the one that brought the PPN to
Ogun State; he is now financing Labour Party at the moment. You cannot be in three parties at the same time; you cannot be in PPN, PDP and Labour Party at the same time. What are we afraid of?”
“Otunba Gbenga Daniel is like any other citizen that jumps political parties. He was fortunate that he governed Ogun State for eight years; is that the reason for being in three political parties at the same time?”
Fakoya added: “Alhaji Bamanga Tukur (PDP national chairman) said we should put discipline back into the party and his (Daniels’) ward said it has suspended him from the party; so be it.
“He is not God; he has been suspended by Ward 12 Sagamu Constituency II. I have got the copy of the letter; I have sent a copy of the letter to the state secretariat and I have sent one to the press.”
Meanwhile, the party has released the report of the eight-man disciplinary committee, led by Mr. Gbenga Salako, dated June 3,
2013.
According to the report, the suspended party faithful were given ample time to defend themselves over the allegation level against them but they refused to appear before the panel.
“And we had no option than to invoke the party’s constitution, 2012 (as amended), Article 58 (1) a, c, e, f and j to suspend the members, which include Hon. Idowu Osho, Mr.
Gbenga Sadiku, Mrs. Yetunde Majolagbe, Mrs. Mabawonju Shitta, Alhaji Ayantola Lawal, Alhaji Raufu Jinad, Mrs. Oguntade Adeleke, Mrs. Gbenga Buhari, Mr. Yinka Sotunde, Mr. Gbenga Sokoya, Mrs. Zainab Lawal and Mr. Olu Osho,” the report said.
The report indicated that, “some members in different guises have defected to PPN and subsequently Labour Party.”
“All party members, who are loyalists of Otunba Gbenga Daniel, defected to PPN and contested against the party (PDP) in the last general elections and presently, they have joined the Labour party while Daniel still parades himself as a PDP member. He cannot be in PDP and Labour Party at the same time.”
When contacted for his comment, Daniel’s spokesman, Mr. Ifekayode
Akinbode, told The Guardian that, “I am driving; let me park to speak to you.” But 30 minutes after, he was yet to do so.
When he was contacted again, he said that he would get in touch with his boss and get across to the reporter later.
But as the time of filing this report, he was yet to fulfill that promise.

Academic Staff Union Of Polytechnics Still On Strike! EDUCATION MINISTER WHERE ART THOU?

Students of Polytechnics in Nigeria have been at home for the past three months because their Lecturers are on strike...protesting for better pay, better working conditions...et al

It is important to note that Nigeria is sadly one Country that does not take Education and Health matters serious because the powers that be can/have their children shipped off to better schools in Europe and America whenever need be...Their wards and family go for routine medical checks...abroad

What is the Minster of Education doing to address this serious issue? Its been three months!....Three whole months of having students stay at home and be idle.

There are even no jobs in place that Students who are at home can take up temporarily till the situation is resolved...and we all know that an idle mind is the devil's workshop!

What is the Government doing about these various Academic strikes that seem to have no solution and keep rearing up in various sects?

When will Education be ever given a thumbs up in Nigeria?
Isn't it a wonder that those who school abroad come home to Nigeria and get automatic job appointment because they are looked upon as highly skilled but those who have even attained up to Masters degree level in Nigeria cannot get good automatic jobs unless they study further in the various Countries they relocated to?

The  Minister of Education, Professor Ruqayyatu Ahmed Rufai should please do something about this trend of striking lecturers....she should tow the 'what a man can do,a woman can do better' line and restore back Education to what gives in the western world otherwise i have no choice but to RIP Education in Nigeria!

 What a pity!

$1.69m fraud: Court turns down Ajudua’s bail application

JUSTICE Olubunmi Oyewole of the Lagos High Court sitting in Ikeja, on Thursday, dismissed the bail application filed by a popular Lagos-based lawyer, Chief Fred Ajudua, who was alleged of defrauding two foreigners of $1.69 million by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Ajudua and an associate, Mr Charles Orie, are facing trial for allegedly defrauding two Dutch businessmen —Messrs Remy Cina and Pierre Vijgen, of the said sum between  July 1999 and September 2000.
At the resumed hearing of the matter, Justice Oyewole, in his ruling on Ajudua’s bail application filed by his counsel, Mr Allens Agbaka, held that though the court had a discretion to grant bail, it must be exercised judicially and judiciously.
He said Ajudua was granted permission to travel to India for medical treatment in 2005 but failed to appear before the court thereafter, adding that no reference was made by Ajudua’s counsel on the exact date he left the country.
According to the court, Ajudua’s international passport was also not tendered before the court and the medical report tendered by the defendant showed that he was within the court’s jurisdiction on the particular day his matter came up, but failed to attend the proceedings.
Justice Oyewole stated that it appeared that Ajudua was physically fit, even though the medical report said he was suffering from a complicated ailment and disagreed with the argument of the defence that special circumstances that ensued were grounds for which Ajudua could be granted bail.
He maintained that it was not true that Ajudua came voluntarily to the court to continue his trial and also rejected Agbaka’s promise to make an undertaken on behalf of Ajudua, noting that a previous undertaken by another lawyer was not honoured.
Justice Oyewole further dismissed the argument of the defence that the fact that Ajudua had the problem of kidney stones warranted he be granted bail.
He said for that argument to succeed, it must be shown that his ailment would affect other prison inmates, adding that there was nothing in the letter from the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), tendered as evidence, that Ajudua’s condition required admission to the hospital.
He stated that the medical report merely showed that Ajudua was only required to visit the hospital for treatment and not for admission.
The judge, however, ordered that the Superintendent of Prisons must ensure that Ajudua was taken to LUTH as required and also ordered an accelerated hearing of the matter.
“Almost a month after, he had been in the country, he never appeared. There is no basis for the claim that he voluntarily appeared in court,” the trial judge said.
“In totality, therefore, I am not persuaded that the accused will make himself available for trial if bail is granted.
“Counsel are to prepare for the resumption of trial from July 8, and it shall proceed on a day to day basis until the matter is concluded,” the judge said

A 100 level Accounting Student of Ladoke Akintola University has been murdered and used for ritual purposes by her boy friend who has absconded.

According to the narration below by one of her friends and room mate, Seun visited her boy friend 9a fellow student last Sunday only for her mutilated body to be found three days later.

This is the unedited story as narrated by her friend

Oluwaseun Adaramoye, until her death was an undergraduate of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Lautech. Seun left her hostel last week Sunday to visit her boyfriend and that was the last time she was seen alive. “Seun Adaramoye was an 100 level accounting student, she stayed in Stadium area around Lawyer Ahmed Junction, she’s a hostel mate and also my friend. On Sunday evening (16th of June), we were all gisting outside the hostel as we normally do and around 5pm, Seun just said she’s coming and left. She was on casual outfits like all of us, so we thought she had gone to the junction to buy stuffs but she went to her best friend’s place not far from the hostel.

“When Seun was leaving her best friend’s apartment, she told her that she wants to quickly get to her boyfriend’s place in Oke-Anu around 7pm on that same Sunday evening and that was the last time we both saw Seun.
“We didn’t even notice on time that she hasn’t returned because she’s a female and no one can monitor a grown lady, so we assume that she should be with her boyfriend Lanre (REAL NAME) not until wednesday morning when Seun refused to show up for her last paper. Her friend came to check on her in the hostel and it was then that she informed us that Seun was nowhere to be found, we searched and searched for Seun but all to no avail.
On Thursday morning, we decided to report her disappearance to the school authorities, that was when we heard the news of a dead body which was discovered at the back of Jastok Guest House…
On getting there, we couldn’t identify the body because several parts of her body had been cut off, her breast, one hand, half her head was gone. We were eventually able to recognise Seun by her hairdo and mark on her leg, her birth mark and the remains of her cloth on the body.
So the police and the SUG were invited and they went after the boyfriend who had obviously absconded, so he has not been arrested as been speculated but his best friend was arrested.
People thought he was arrested because of the search and the arrest of his best friend but he hasn’t been found till now, he’s gone into exile…On Searching Lanre’s house, the police found mysterious things like Calabash, Ladies Bra, Panties, Nails and several underwears.

Our friend Seun was NEVER a runs girl, she was a very gentle and loving soul, and she was just unlucky to have fallen a victim of some desperate souls. She has since been buried by her brother here in Ogbomosho because the body was already decaying with worms all over and moreover it’s an uncompleted body and they won’t bury her like that in her hometown”..

MEMO TO MR EMEKA MORGAN OF MORGAN ENTERTAINMENT

A croaked voice called me on the phone just now saying he is ''Morgan entertainment''.and asked what country i am in and i told him.''This is Stella,if you want to speak to me you got it right''

And then he went on to tell me that he wanted to know my country so that he would send the police to arrest me!

I laugh out loud!

This is my memo

''First of all Mr Morgan, you are so ill mannered but that's not my business. If you think that voice of yours scared me,you are joking and wasting your time.I wonder why you added me on blackberry yesterday night but could say nothing but chose to call and think i will be scared.

I am not scared and for your information, the Police anywhere in Europe will not walk up to my doorstep to arrest me like you have just stated with that your bitter kola voice.
You think I live in Nigeria where you take the laws into your hands and brutalize people like you did Mr Madubogu?Sorry for you.

The supposed story which you have been commenting on right here on this blog was written by another website which i lifted here and asked for your address to give you fair hearing but instead you want to rope me into your web of lies.

I am not shaken and i am waiting for the police that will come here to arrest me then you will see the power of the EU laws under which i am perfectly protected.

In your ignorant state of mind,i hope you know that the phone call you just placed to me is a threat on my life and i am calling up my lawyer to report you and in case you wish to contact me again, please let your lawyer do so and have them know that you already placed a threatening call first to me.

As for the misplaced millions you have which you want to waste chasing Stella to arrest, please try to donate the money to charity you dey hear?
One more thing, please keep chewing on your bitter kola and know that the call you just made is a waste of time...go and continue your cat and dog fight with Mr Obi Madubogu who has placed a heavy accusation on your head which you are yet to officially address,i was looking for your number to give you the right of fair hearing, but you obviously are a misguided human being..bomblakat!

I dey kampe dey wait for your police.
Please hurry.......Hurry ooooooh.

I hope you have also placed a call to all the websites that carried the story?if not please do inugo?IN CASE YOU CANNOT USE THE INTERNET OR GOOGLE,i have helped you do a google search page of all the websites you should be calling up....that should save you browsing time.CLICK HERE

Ill mannered bomblakat!
